What's Bali's New Tourist Tax & What Travelers Need To Know
Starting February 14, 2024, foreign tourists visiting Bali must pay a one-time tax of Rp 150,000 ($10 USD) for their entire stay in the region.
Tax Purpose and Implementation
The Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, established this levy to protect Bali's cultural heritage and natural environment. According to Bali Government Regulation Number 6 of 2023, the tax applies to all foreign visitors entering Bali, whether arriving directly from abroad or through other Indonesian regions.
The collected funds support multiple objectives: maintaining cultural tourism information services, improving public infrastructure and transportation systems, and enhancing overall cleanliness, order, comfort, and safety for tourists.
Payment Methods and Process
Payment processing occurs electronically through Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) via the Love Bali website (lovebali.baliprov.go.id). Travelers can choose from several payment options:
- Virtual account transfers
- Bank transfers
- QRIS payment systems
Tourists can complete payments before arriving in Bali. After successful payment, the Love Bali System generates a digital proof of payment.
Alternative Payment Options
Those unable to use the online system can pay at BRI counters located in airports or ports using debit cards, credit cards, or electronic data capture (EDC) machines. In these cases, a printed receipt serves as proof of payment.
Travelers must retain their payment proof for scanning at arrival gates during verification procedures.
