Overview
The Transitional Residence Permit, also called the Bridging Visa, represents an initiative by Indonesia's Directorate-General of Immigration to provide legal certainty for foreign residents. This permit allows foreigners to remain in Indonesia during the processing period for a new residence permit, eliminating the previous requirement to leave the country.

Validity and Duration
The permit is valid for sixty days and cannot be extended. According to the regulations, it serves as a temporary bridge while applicants work toward obtaining a new residence permit.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for this transitional permit, applicants must meet specific conditions:
- The application must be submitted by the foreigner, their guarantor, or an authorized representative from within Indonesian territory to the Director-General of Immigration
- The previous residence permit must still be valid
- The application must be submitted at least three days before the current permit expires
Purpose
The permit was established through Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation No. 11 of 2024, amending prior regulations. It addresses the previous burden where foreigners had to leave Indonesia and return to extend expiring residence permits—a costly and inconvenient process.
